Planning how to crush it
How to crush it
You hear this all the time be disruptive – just do it- be epic
How do you do it? Crickets. I’m all for a good cheerleading session when I’m at a game. But when it comes down to being successful I want practical hands on solutions.
Crushing it is a three-step process creating, planning and doing
Manifesting
You need to dream to be able to create. But thinking big is only the first step
The Wrong Way
Don’t sit there stewing in a pot of want. Just wanting something doesn’t bring it to you. You can sit in your apartment all day thinking but there must be action, Your brain needs to be engaged. Sitting back and just wishing doesn’t make it so
The Right Way
You are envisioning it with details, so you know what it looks like. Using that image, you can begin to sort through the tasks you need to do to create it. Manifesting is simply coming up with an idea. And a culture has been created where people believe if you click your heels three times and want it hard enough it will happen.
- You do need to start with an idea
- You should care about it
- You need to invest it with details
- You do need to dream to be able to create but thinking is only the first step. Let’s face it thinking about is still just thinking about it.
You need the idea so you can start. Having a passion for it will get you through the mundane day to day tasks that need to happen for a project to flourish. The details are going to create your structure. If you are building a home you need to know ahead of time if you are building a split level or a ranch. The details are the beginning of a plan.
Do check lists
The Wrong Way
Sit down with reams of paper and write obsessively. Write every possible task that you can. Look busy! Exhaust yourself with thinking, writing now sit back and feel the overwhelm. You will get some of it done but not enough to feel good
The Right Way
You can do the brain dump but with a difference. Then pick the 5 most important things to achieve your goal. Your check list is your top 5 priorities only. That is what you work on. Now each priority may have several tasks to complete it. Attack the priority and work it until it is done. If you don’t prioritize your to do’s you will never get the important things done. Don’t drown yourself in minutia
Other people
Whether we acknowledge it or not we live in a world where our survival depends on others. I didn’t gather the eggs that I had for breakfast this morning. When I hop on the subway I am not driving the train. So, how do you get other people on board?
The Wrong Way
Hi I am going to talk about me and my project without acknowledging you in any way. I even created a list of what I want you to do for me. Let’s connect on LinkedIn then I’ll spam your inbox, Can I have your email to? I’m so happy you met me.
The Right Way
What’s in it for them? The answer will be different and varied depending on the person. Sorry it’s not all about you it’s about them.
Implementation
The Wrong Way
I have a thought-I launch it! -Epic failure
The Right Way
I once worked with a technician on Broadway. They had a scene where actors were flown across the stage in a harness. Every night after the show he checked the rigging. When he came in the next night he checked the rigging again. I asked him why he did it again and he said who knows what the happened while I wasn’t there? Always check for safety of your thought. It is your responsibility to check every possibility before you launch. You don’t want your project dangling in md air and crashing to the ground.
And the finale – The Ability to Fail
The Wrong Way
Major pity party! Temper tantrums or hiding in a dark room. And above all blame everyone within a five mile radius. Whatever works for you.
The Right Way
An idea did not work. You are working but the idea did not. First analyze what went wrong. Is it fixable? Do you want to or does scrapping it make sense? What information came out of this failure? What will you do or not do for the next time? If you can do that you will fail brilliantly.
These stepd have been outlined in a brief way and it will take a lot of work. Here’s to your success!
